Day 1

“The chief task in life is simply this: to identify and separate matters so that I can say clearly to myself which are externals not under my control, and which have to do with the choices I actually control. Where then do I look for good and evil? Not to uncontrollable externals, but within myself to the choices that are my own.”                                         Epictetues, Discourses, 2.5.4-5

Ok, I have been working on this for awhile now. It has helped me let go of a variety of problems that have followed me around. It has even worked when somebody cuts me off in traffic. Well maybe not 100% of the time but up to 35 to 45% at least.

So how to apply this to Trump. He is the external evil and not under my control. So he is picking his cabinet and appointing all the “has been” Republicans that have plagued my adult life. He is busy attacking the New York Times and Harry Reid  and appointing a White Supremacist to be his right man.

I can make the choice to limit information from outside sources. I have defriended all who voiced support for Trump on Facebook. Right, reach out and find common ground. “No thank you, I don’t think so.” Don Henley  No, Thank You. Maybe make the choice to take the long view and fight the battles as they come with supporting the organizations that fight the fight. Make the choice to breathe in and let go. Small steps, its a start.
